Huntington Hospital is a full-service, not-for-profit, community hospital, serving Huntington Township and the surrounding communities since 1916. Its primary mission is to provide a full range of inpatient, outpatient, and specialized healthcare services within an environment nurtured by respect and safety. Services are provided to all patients regardless of race, color, religion, age, national origin, disability or sexual orientation, or ability to pay. The hospital provides a full range of services to patients of every age, from newborns through geriatrics. It is especially known for providing high quality care of the cancer patient, cardiac care, maternity and neonatal care, and specialized orthopedic surgical procedures. The hospital contains state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology laboratories; a new Surgical Services Pavilion with 10 large and updated operating suites; and a newly renovated intensive care unit and intermediate care unit. Recent achievements include the receipt of Magnet status, an honor that recognizes excellence in nursing, presented by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Huntington is the first community hospital on Long Island to achieve Magnet Status. In addition, the hospital’s cancer program has been certified as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Center by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer. The hospital’s commitment to providing high quality care to the poor and medically indigent is carried out through the Dolan Family Health Center, one of its flagship programs. Long Island’s only charitably supported, hospital owned healthcare center for the uninsured and underinsured, the Dolan Center logged more than 30,000 visits in 2005. Ongoing free educational lectures, health screenings, and immunization programs are among the highlights of Huntington Hospital’s community outreach activities. The hospital relies on philanthropic support to continue to invest in the latest medical technology, to expand and upgrade its facilities and to further its mission of caring for the uninsured and underinsured and offering free programs to the entire community.
