The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD) was established in 1956 by R. Brinkley Smithers, one of the pioneers in the field of alcoholism addiction, LICADD is the premier non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to the prevention of alcohol and drug use and promotion of addiction recovery. LICADD established the first Employees Assistance Program in the nation to address the issues of alcoholism among America’s workforce. Today, LICADD’s EAP program services more than 60,000 employees across Long Island and the

Eastern Seaboard of the United States. A bi-county agency and the foremost leader in prevention programs, LICADD has successfully implemented a wide range of best-practice alcohol and substance abuse prevention and intervention programs in communities across Long Island and has built a stellar reputation as a community leader and partner to treatment providers, faith-based organizations and government agencies in the region. Our evidence-based prevention programs include Too Good for Drugs, for children grades K-12 (TGFD), Teen Intervene, parent workshops, alcohol education classes and professional trainings. In addition to our core of prevention programs, LICADD provides addiction screening, brief intervention and referrals to treatment (SBIRT) as well as relapse prevention. Central to LICADD’s mission is our unwavering policy to ensure that our vital prevention and intervention programs remain accessible to at-risk children and families.
